Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 28
Traffic was crazy as it can be in PAP but we had left
early and are comfortably waiting for our flight. The airport is a
good place to judge progress as it gets more and more modern each
trip. I think everyone is leaving grateful that they came, anxious
to share what God is doing, ready to see their families and
friends, and ready to go again.
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 27
Friday was beach day. The weather was fantastic; it is
nice to be reminded of how beautiful God's creation is even here in
the midst of poor and dusty villages. Had a good wrap-up meeting
tonight and there was a movie with the hope house kids. Tomorrow
morning we will finish up a few odd and ends before heading home.
It has been a terrific week but it will be great to see our
families again!
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 26
Thursday was, for this trip, a typical day. The mobile
medical team saw 311 patients in their final day. I know Sandy was
quite busy acting as a pharmacist. Amanda and Andrew helped finish
the nursery in the morning and in the afternoon Amanda went to
Simonet while Andrew helped reconfigure and relocate the wireless
internet repeaters. Those working here at the mission finished our
projects and worked into the evening. Andy also looked at a
pedestrian bridge project for MOH. Tomorrow we will visit an
orphanage and go to the beach. I think everyone is tired, but in a
good way. For a small group, we feel God has blessed us with
diversity; we have not shied away from any tasks and we feel like
we have been well used. We have talked often about how God arranged
all the parts of this week long before we were born and the results
are just amazing! We do serve a great God. I (Andy) am very proud
of the team and grateful they are so easy to lead.
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 25
Wednesday was much like Tuesday. The mobile medical team
saw 271 patients and will return tomorrow for the final of three
days. Amandrew helped paint a house in Source Matelas and had a
great time relating with the locals while painting. Swarms of kids
came to "help" paint and the owners were very happy to have a
painted house (which is rare in Haiti). Those working here at the
mission finished our screen doors and windows and moved on to
another project. There are so many great people and stories here to
fill any evening down time no one misses TV, internet, or
radio!
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 24
Tuesday was another busy day for our team.
Amanda and Andrew went to the village of Source Matelas in the
morning and visited with families and prayed with them. In the
afternoon they went to Titanyen to Maranatha Orphanage to play with
the kids and do some Bible stories. They were with a team from
Indiana.
Dale, Brian, and Andy continued construction work on the
Mission.
Diana, Sandy and Kym went to Turpin and saw 200 patients
today. Their team includes 4 doctors, several nurses,
administrative helpers, and many translators.
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 23
Our first work day was a productive and fulfilling day.
Dale, Brian, and I built screens for windows, built a wall, and
started on some screen doors. It is always an interesting challenge
to build something when you don't have all the tools or materials
you would like to have. Amanda and Andrew worked on a team that
painted the nursery. It turned out great with a beautiful mural.
Kym, Sandy, and Diana worked in the clinic, did some packing for
tomorrow's mobil clinic, and visited an orphanage where they did
more than 70 check-ups. The weather is fantastic, the food is good,
and everyone is healthy. Please continue to pray for us and
MOH.
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 22
Day 2: Sunday is a busy day for teams at MOH. Three 1
1/2 hour tours of the three MOH campuses and visiting with the
children there, 3 hours at church, a trip to a local restaurant, a
presentation of the MOH vision, worshiping with some of the kids
from the Hope house, and a Haitian vs. American basketball
game.
We sang happy birthday to Amanda at dinner and Andrew surprised
her with a present. Sandy is finding it to be hot here but is
coping well so far. Tomorrow the work begins.
Team devotions and many of the worship times and talks here are
focusing on the overwhelming awesomeness of our God, what should be
our total dependence on him, and how to deepen that relationship.
Although there is obviously a language barrier, worshiping in the
church here is a blessing for sure. Seeing their sincere outpouring
of love and awe to God is inspiring.
Haiti Mission Trip Update 2 - Jan 21
Day one is in the books and we are heading to bed.
Unpacked and sorted all of the donations (thank you to those who
donated items or helped us pay for checked bags) and got settled in
our rooms. We met the other teams and had a good dinner.
Orientation was tonight and then we had meetings with or specific
groups. Diana, Kym, and Sandy are going with the mobile medical
mission and the other 5 of us are doing construction. There is also
a group of people doing stuff in the local villages.
Haiti Mission Trip Update - Jan 21
We arrived a few hours late due to snow in New York but safe and
sound with all 8 team members. I think because it was later in the
day, the airport was as calm as I have ever seen it. We are driving
now to MOH to unpack and get settled in.
2012 Mexico Mission Trip
High School students will have an opportunity to take part in a
week long mission trip to Mexico in 2012. We will be working with
YUGO ministries which has been serving in Mexico since 1964. We
will stay at a missions site in Roserito and team up with a local
church which we will work at daily. Students will have the
opportunity to help a church with VBS, evangelism, women's
ministry, student ministry and sports ministry. If we find adults
who are also interested it is possible that we could even build a
home for a family in Mexico if we raised enough funds.
Kevin has been able to lead students on 3 trips to this mission.
Every time students and adults come back with transformed lives.
Pray about taking part in this wonderful opportunity. Check out www.yugo.org for more
information.
