Dear church,
In Job 26:4, Job asks a piercing question, “With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you?” From a scriptural sense, every word we speak is not neutral. It comes from a source. It is either shaped by the Spirit of God or influenced by the spirit of the world. Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34)
If in my ‘Monday Notes,’ I wrote a string of hurtful words and curses, each word will influence you with uncleanness. Indeed, our words themselves can be the conduit of satanic infiltration. James said, “The tongue…sets on fire the course of our life and is set on fire by hell” (James 3:2-6). Let us discern the biblical truth that the devil can take hold of our careless, insensitive words and literally crush people. Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up…that it may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4:29). Paul tells the Romans that one of the most important ingredients of our salvation is the words we speak. When you “confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord” (Romans 10:9). Our verbal confession takes salvation out of the doctrinal state and releases the power of heaven that firms up our belief in our hearts. The Bible also mentions in 1 John 5:14 “that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” Our words begin to shape and redirect our future towards God!
So, we guard our tongues. Speak life over our family. Speak grace in the church. Speak truth with love. The way we talk gives us away (Matthew 26:73). May our words show we have been with Jesus.
Be Encouraged,
Mathews
