Dear Church,
Proverbs 4:26 says, “Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure” (ESV). What does ponder mean? Ponder means to think about, to mull over, or carefully consider. You can’t ponder quickly; nor can you be an impatient ‘ponderer’. Patience and pondering are two sides of the coin. For believers, pondering involves bringing everything under the counsel and direction of God.
Proverbs 21:29 says a wicked man puts on a bold face, but the upright gives thought to his ways. That is what pondering does, it gives thought to our ways. Maybe it’s a decision about the person you want to marry, a major purchase, a career move, a ministry decision, talking with someone about life and faith, who to pray for, what to pray about. It is to bring everything before the Lord. It is to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will (Rom 12:2). Remember God’s speed and God’s timings are always right. He may sometimes want us to go fast and sometimes he says slow down, but His timing and speed is what we want to run on, not ours.
Take time to pray and ponder. There is tremendous peace and joy when we bring everything under the counsel of our loving God. Trust me, it always works!
Be Encouraged,
Mathews
