Dear Church,
As we step into a new week, I want to share a timely reminder from Ephesians 5:15-16:
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
The word translated “carefully” doesn’t mean to be cautious, it means to be intentional, purposeful. In the original language, it carries the sense of walking with precision, alertness, and skill, paying close attention to how we live. Time, according to Scripture, is not something to pass. It’s a gift of God to steward.
The Bible gives us two words for time. Chronos refers to regular, measurable time, days, minutes, hours, years. It’s the ticking of the clock. Kairos, however, is something entirely different. It refers to divine opportunity, a God-ordained moment, something sacred and significant that won’t stay open forever.
Too many of us spend our lives in chronos mode just moving through the motions, staying busy, making good time but going nowhere spiritually. Like the pilot who once announced, “We’ve been flying aimlessly for over an hour… but the good news is, we’re making great time!” It sounds funny until we realize that’s exactly how many of us are living. Aimlessly making great time!
But God is calling us to something deeper. He invites us to step into kairos moments, kingdom time where we don’t just get through the day, we live it with purpose. We stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading and alert to eternal opportunities around us.
Missionary Adoniram Judson once said, “A life once spent is irrevocable… The same may be said of each day. When it is once past, it is gone forever.”
So, here’s your Monday encouragement. Let’s not just mark time, let’s make a mark. Let’s not merely spend time, let’s invest it in eternity. Let’s not waste time, let’s worship God with our time. Live this day on kairos time. Walk with purpose. Be fully surrendered. Trust the Shepherd who leads you. Holy Surrender is a good place to start.
Be encouraged,
Mathews
