Dear Church,

If we want to experience real change in our lives, it’s going to take more than just trying harder or wishing things were different. True transformation doesn’t begin with effort, it begins with knowing the truth. In John 17:17 Jesus prays “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” Sanctification means to grow up, to be transformed, to become the way God wants us to be. This is only possible by knowing and obeying God’s words

If we want to change how we handle our finances, we need to know what God says about stewardship, generosity, and contentment and begin to live that truth.

If we want our marriages to grow, we must understand God’s truth about love, forgiveness, humility, and covenant and walk in its daily. We’ve got to know the truth if our lives are going to be changed. Why? Because every behavior that holds us back is rooted in a lie we’re believing. Maybe we’ve believed a lie about our past: That we’re too broken, too far gone, or too damaged to be used by God. Or perhaps it’s a lie about our future: That we’ll never change. That nothing good can come from our story.

But those lies are not the final word. God’s truth is. When we begin to know and believe what He says about our past, present, and future, it breaks the grip of deception and leads us into freedom.

So, what’s our next step? When we spend time with God, He helps us identify the lies we’ve accepted as truth and one by one those chains start breaking. Jesus says in John 8:32  And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Because when we start thinking God’s truth, we’ll start walking in God’s freedom. The Holy Spirit strengthens us here when we surrender to Him.

Be encouraged,

Mathews
