Good morning church!

Yesterday was another sweet witness of God’s presence at Immanuel. What a joy to worship God, to hear the testimonies and celebrate baptisms of Crystal and Sophie and to hear the Lord speak through Psalm 1.  We were reminded that the blessed person (the one settled and straight with God), that person refuses the drift of walk → stand → sit  in the counsel of the ungodly.  In a world packed with opinions (some even sprinkled with Bible words), discernment matters.

God’s Word is the safest counselor, and godly counselors will always bring you back to it.  As you filter the voices in your life this week, run every “microphone” through these three questions:

  1. Does this voice drive me to Scripture or away from it?
  2. Does it magnify Jesus or just feed my flesh, outrage and fears?
  3. Does it produce the fruit of the Spirit or the works of the flesh? (Galatians 5)

Here are two simple practices to start this week:

First 15: Before you open your phone, open the Word. Read Psalm 1 and pray it back to God.

Mute one, add one: Mute one noisy voice; add one Scripture voice (audio Bible on your commute, a verse card in your pocket).

May the Lord plant you deep, keep your leaf from withering, and make you fruitful in season.

Be encouraged,
Mathews
