Dear Church,
 
We can learn a lot about a person’s health by looking at what they eat. The same truth applies to our spiritual health. We can learn a lot about a person’s spiritual health by looking at their spiritual diet. We know that drinking soda and eating Junk food can affect our physical health. Likewise, there are many unhealthy habits that affect our spiritual health. They are our ‘spiritual junk foods’, examples are hours of cable news, social media, soap operas, favorite sports, and other things.  In fact, its stranglehold on our spiritual life wears us down with no spiritual energy to live like true Christians.  We get tired, frustrated, and angry when we fight our spiritual battles in life.
 
Proverbs 15:14 says, “A wise man is hungry for truth, while the mocker feeds on trash” (TLB).
 
It is time we take an inventory of what we feed our spiritual life with. How would you describe your spiritual diet? The bible says in Philippians 4:8 “Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things”.
 
Does the above list describe the things that you think most of the time?  If that is not the case it’s time for us to train our hearts and mind to think thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. How do we do this? We do this by changing our spiritual diet – we start feeding on God’s word, we start spending time with him in prayer, we also would want to spend time in the company of God’s people. Each day we have a choice as to how we can feed our spiritual self.
